Narcissistic traits
Red flags to watch out for. Extreme gestures, showered with gifts and attention, then becoming distant and disconnected. These are behaviours of a narcissist. Narcissism can take several shapes, one of control and abuse covert and another overt. The latter fall into the area of people like Putin and Trump who do not care what people think of them. However, the most dangerous are the covert narcissist who at first shower you with love and attention providing you with gifts and romantic occasions, then at some time change completely and become distant and controlling.

Other types
Malignant, antagonist and communal are other types to be aware of.
Examples...
Malignant: Someone with malignant narcissism has the same egocentric self-absorption and sense of superiority as people with other narcissistic behaviors, but they also have traits associated with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), such as aggression, paranoia, lack of empathy, a sadistic streak. Antagonist: Antagonistic narcissism is defined by a sense of competitiveness, arrogance, and rivalry. While all people with narcissistic traits can be overly concerned with how they appear to others, antagonistic narcissists are particularly concerned with coming out “on top." Communal: Like someone living with covert narcissism, someone with communal narcissism may not appear to be ego-driven at all. At first, they can come across as selfless or even as a martyr. However, their internal motivation is to earn praise and admiration, not help others. Key traits are lack of empathy, sense of entitlement, can be antagonistic, highly engaged in their community, derives a sense of self from being a "giver", present themselves as selfless and "others-focused."
